Welcome to the official website for The Athens PopFest. Since 2004 we've strived each year to make this event better than the one before it. Please be sure to check back often for updated information and also follow us on Twitter and Facebook. All new information will be posted at all three places so you won't miss out on anything.
We're committed to the idea that the Athens PopFest is not simply another multi-day event full of bands and crowds. It is an annual gathering of curious music fans, artists, travelers and locals. During the course of the festival friendships are made and longtime ones renewed, people from around the corner meet with those from the other side of the globe and first-timers fall in love with Athens, GA just like we did. We could throw a plain old music festival anywhere. We host The Athens PopFest in Athens, GA because this is home, there's no other place quite like it and there's no other place we'd rather be. Once you're here we're pretty sure you'll feel the same way.
Athens PopFest Website FAQ:
What is the Athens PopFest?
The Athens PopFest is a multi-day festival music and arts festival held in downtown Athens, GA. Mike Turner of HHBTM Records founded the festival in 2004. In 2008 Len Neighbors and Gordon Lamb joined Turner and the three organized the Athens PopFest Foundation. This is a non-profit Georgia corporation and scholarship-granting body that is committed to promoting Athens, GA as a particularly unique destination for travelers interested arts and music, providing scholarships to graduates of Athens' high school who have chosen a college major in the arts, supporting our own home-grown music and arts scene and creating an event each year that draws attendees and performers from all over the world.
When is the Athens PopFest? Where is it held?
The festival takes place this year October 11-15. Our music venues are the 40 Watt Club, The Caledonia Lounge. The Poptober Fair record fair/craft show/'zine & small publishing show will take place at The Classic Center on October 15.
How much does the festival cost? Where can I buy tickets?
Full festival passes are $70 and allow entry into all Athens PopFest events. They are available for purchase here. Individual tickets are available for the shows at the 40 Watt Club only and can be purchased at the following places: Wednesday Night (Throwing Muses). Thursday Night (Bob Mould). No. All Athens PopFest events are all ages.
Really?
Yes. ALL ATHENS POPFEST EVENTS ARE ALL AGES. (Sorry for yelling.)
The festival used to be in August. Why is it now in October?
Quite simply because after several years of running the festival in 100+ degree weather that neared 100% humidity we thought it would be much nicer to host the event during much cooler weather.
Who is playing this year?
Our major headlining acts this year are The Olivia Tremor Control, Bob Mould, Throwing Muses, Dead Milkmen and Man Or Astroman?. For a full schedule of all bands playing please see our schedule page.
You mentioned scholarships. What else can you tell me about those?
The Athens PopFest will provide scholarships for both Camp Amped at Nuci's Space and The Athens Girls Rock Camp. We also administer The Rachel Lamb Memorial Scholarship For The Performing Arts. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to one student from each of Athens' high schools who are seniors on track to graduate, have been accepted to the college of their choice and will major in any area of the performing arts.
